good game if you dont want to lose all your money on the real thing [Posted on 2007-04-05] good game play lets you speed through hands that you dont want to play...gameplay is as close to the real thing as you can get...some guys bluff some dont you have to find out yourself..perfect learning game for the inexerienced as well
Fun, if you like playing Texas Holdem [Posted on 2007-04-10] This game is very addicting if you watch the show on television and like playing poker then you really can't beat it. Some of the professionals are in the game and offer you tips on how to win. After a while the in game dialog get a little monotonous, but i just listen to the radio and mute the tv volume. A definite keeper!
Fun video poker with virtual champions... [Posted on 2007-05-23] "World Series of Poker: ToC" is a fun and entertaining PS2 game that is a good primer for actual play. Naturally, real play is where the real lessons are learned, but this game provides insight into how you should respond in the real thing.
The game play speed can be adjusted, and it is helpful if you want to get out of a hand. However, you miss out on the skills of trying to read people, which this game attempts to do. It is necessary for the real thing, and it is a good upgrade from the first edition of this game.
It's nice to have Lon and Norman do the voices. Its even nicer to have "Jesus" Ferguson provide advice to you as you journey on.
In the end, a good game and primer for real play. But don't expect the real thing to be ANYTHING like this game.
Will ruin your poker skills [Posted on 2007-11-28] Like many reviewers have stated the cpu play is horrible, only to be saved by running cards. I can give hundreds of examples, but here's the one that made me write this review. I raised 10 times the blind (you have to do these huge raises to get ANYONE to fold), I had AJs. I was called by a player with 7 / 2 offsuit. The ABSOLUTE worst starting hand in poker. I go all in when the board pairs my Jack the cpu calls and gets a 2 and a 7 on the turn and river. Notice that the all in call (virtually all his chips) was made with nothing. This is one of several examples. I started to keep track of the flushes, straights and full houses and the percentage is remarkable for the cpu.
Conversely, I found that when I had the nuts, the cpu would rarely ever call any amount of a bet. So you can't bluff, because you'll get called with ANYTHING and then lose, and you can't bet your nut hands because no one will call.
Thus, this game will RUIN your poker skills if you're trying to get better at poker. Try Poker Academy instead. Much more realistic cpu play.
Very good game [Posted on 2008-10-13] This is one of the most challenging poker video games i've played. I've been playing poker for over 4 years now and this game is pretty challenging. Only bad thing is they dont pay attention to the detail of poker.
