Good product - need to modify if you have depth limitations [Posted on 2007-03-08]
I bought these to install speakers in the doors of an '04 Chevy Avalanche. The allowable depth on this vehicle is fairly shallow...otherwise you will have interference with the window mechanism. The foam enclosures were too deep and I therefore had to modify them to shorten the installed depth and still enclose my speaker magnet. I accomplished this by placing my speaker in the enclosure and then pushing the extra unneeded depth of the foam enclosure down to the back of the speaker magnet. I then went around the perimeter of the speaker magnet and stapled the excess depth of foam into a "scrunched up" rim of material. I then trimmed off the rim of excess foam material with a pair of sharp scissors, making sure that the staples were holding the foam in place and that there were no gaps. Lastly, I placed a small bead of Elmer's glue around the seam of the trimmed off excess foam to ensure that there were no gaps in the back of the enclosure adjacent to the staples. This worked just fine and the enclosures were of the proper depth to allow installation into the door panels without interfering with the window mechanisms. I guess it would be helpful if the product was listed with information about the required mounting depth in an unmodified state to help purchasers make the decision to buy them. Otherwise, it would be great if they offered these enclosures with different mounting depths so that the buyer could pick the right depth of foam for his application.
