They throw him out of an air plane and he likes it? [Posted on 2008-08-24]
This guy can fly a motorcycle?
Staying alive is passing the test?
He has a wise attitude, tattoos and a shaved head,
but he seems to be pretty fearless too.
So he falls for a hot Gothic Euro-Babe and then,
he is really in trouble! As a secret agent trying to save
the lady in distress he is now a hero instead of just another punk.
This movie was a success because it is funny.
All the paperwork that goes into being a government employee
and they draft a misfit...

HORRIBLE [Posted on 2008-10-21]
I'm a Vin fan who just suffered through this pile of garbage. What a lousy movie. Vin is much better than this. No wonder he passed on part II. Bad acting all around. Laughable action. Lame touching moments. This is lipstick on a pig. Avoid it. This should be more embarassing to Vin than his clips on youtube of him breakdancing as a teenager. A horrible movie.

It's Just An Action Movie People! [Posted on 2008-11-01]
Now, i've just read a lot of bad reviews of this film, & some good points have been taken. But seriously - you knew this was an action movie when you went into the theatre! Mindless - guilty. Unbelievable - definitely. Boring - NO. The stunts are great, it's got funny (and dumb) 1 liners from the hero, & it's got the hot girl for the hero. Everything that makes action movies good, right? Before you condemn this movie for it's cliches, take a look at some of the other action movies you clame to like. Oh, & have any of the Bond movies been intellectual - could he really fit all that junk is his friggin' wrist watch?

Humorous...even when not intended! [Posted on 2008-12-04]
This is one of my favorite senseless action movies. Some of the scenes are quite serious but they end up quite funny.

Marton Csokas and his...gangsters are awesome! "Show me the cop...and do not be mistake!"

If you're going to watch this you got to be in the kind of mindset like if you were to watch CRANK or SHOOT EM UP. XXX is over-the-top when it comes to its action scenes. If you're in this frame of mind you may actually enjoy the movie.

Bond Had the Last Laugh [Posted on 2008-12-18]
Back to a more blatant Bond imitator, this 2002 stunt and gadget laden spy adventure boasted how it was going to usurp 007's throne by providing "a new breed of hero" in the form of shaven headed, tattoed extreme sports star, Xander Cage, played by Vin Diesel. It laboured this claim by opening with a Bond style agent being killed in embarrassing circumstances. As it turned out, few people were tired with the "old style" agent, as box office profits for that year's Bond, Die Another Day, soon put paid to Vin Diesal's crowing about 007 being old hat.

The problem with Xander Cage was that his grunge image was never going to win over the female following that 007's more refined but dark persona commanded; I mean, ladies, Vin Diesal or Piece Brosnan? Which one would you prefer to share the duvet with? Also the film itself lacked the classy, expert construction that even the bad Bond films like Moonraker could at least boast.

That apart, XXX is enjoyable action and did well enough to prompt further missions for Mr Cage. However, its failure to live up to its stated mission of ousting Mr. Bond left Vin Diesal rather egg faced and he tactfully withdrew to concentrate on the proposed Chronicles of Riddick trilogy. This proved another egg facing experience; the first film flopped and the remaining two have been shelved.

Having burnt is bridges, Vin Diesal's Xander Cage was killed off for XXX2 - The Next Level and replaced by Ice Cube as Darius Stone (Vin Diesal? Ice Cube? What is with the names?) Bond director Lee Tamahori was drafted in to oversee proceedings with the new agent playing out a Die Hard style storyline. It was universally panned and XXX has gone Ex-Ex-Ex!
