Not so cool cooler [Posted on 2008-12-02] This cooling station really does not move a lot of air in the stock configuration. The dust grilles have holes that are so small, It could clog very fast if used in a dusty environment. I removed the grilles and widened the holes in the plastic where the fans are. Airflow was acceptable, but still not a lot. I replaced the fans with ones that have double the cubic feet per min. airflow. I also discarded the power supply that came with the unit. The fans are 12 volts, the power supply is 9 volts. I had a 12 volt wall wart supply, so I used it instead.
works great now.
If the unit had come with a 12v supply, I might not have had to "butcher" a very nice cooling stand. As it comes from the manufacturer, it's not very usable as a cooling device.
OK Overall [Posted on 2008-12-03] It looks nice (it has a cool green glow when it's on), doesn't take up a lot of extra space, and does a pretty good job of cooling my XBOX 360. It has its own power supply, so it doesn't draw any extra power from your 360. It would be nice if it didn't have a rather large plug, however.
With that being said, I'm not completely satisfied with it. After having this product for only a couple months of very limited use (due mainly to my extreme work schedule), it got VERY loud. The fans sound like they're ready to die. Have you ever heard a cooling fan in a computer power supply when it's about to quit working? It sounds like that x2 (due to this having 2 fans). I'm not sure I would recommend this product to anyone.
Not so "cool" [Posted on 2008-12-13] I read the reviews about the cooling station, so I was expecting this. But I was surprised when i turned it on!!! I can even feel the air when I put my hand over it!!! I was expecting this, so I was prepared for modding it.
So, 10 minutes after opening the cooling base, I decided to mod it. I am running it at 12V (the fan are 12V, so you should have no problems) and I removed the air filters in the bottom.
Now is trowing more air, but not enough for my taste. My intercooler TS is doing all the work now. I will go to a local store and take some good fans and replace the crappy ones that come with the base.
BTW, the glow stand looks very cool!!
It cools... [Posted on 2008-12-22] The Glow Stand looks cool. The fans are relatively quiet... someone else stated they're were louder than the 360's fans.... not true! I'm pleased with the cooling station. Cons...Yeppers, you have to actually turn it off and on yourself. No biggy.
Xbox 360 cooling station [Posted on 2008-12-27] Excellent concept. Cooler has its own power supply. Doesn't steal power from the xbox. Great job cooling the unit.
