worthless software [Posted on 2007-03-20] This software installed ok on both machines, but its options of stuff to move over were sparse, and I ended up moving over most of the stuff manually. The software did NOT move email messages and settings, desktop preferences, favorites, user accounts, or printer drivers which is really why I bought it in the first place.
When I connected the two computers with the supplied crossover cable, the Vista computer and XP computer could "see" that the other was there and manually transfer files between the two, but the software produced an error message when I tried to start the moving process. I reinstalled the software on both machines and reconnected the cable, with no luck. I then chose the option to save all the settings and files to a file, and manually move the file over. This worked, but the settings that I mentioned above failed to move properly. Customer service was no help whatsoever, and I ended up moving my documents and emails over manually.
Basically this is an overpriced cable. You can buy it for less than half of the cost of this box.
reality [Posted on 2007-06-01] This program did not work..tech from company tried, but offerred no tangible help. Luckily, Microsoft has now launch a free program for the same purpose...suggest to all that you forget this program and use the one that is now available for Vista.
Disappointment [Posted on 2007-09-05] I would like to amend my previous review of this product. When it was written I entertained a false assumption that tainted my opinion. I now know that the reason my "Documents and Settings" folder did not transfer from my old XP computer to my new Vista computer is because, under Vista, the folder has been replaced by a "Users" folder that contains the same information. Other than the fact that I would have appreciated a longer transfer cable and I did experience the disappearance of minor personal files during the transfer, I was generally pleased with the product and would now rate it four stars. I wish to apologize to readers and to the vendor for any confusion I may have created.
