Yogurt thermometer [Posted on 2008-04-24] This thermometer makes the job so easy. I purchased it along with the 1 qt. yogurt maker by Salton. I would recommend it to anyone.
Just used it twice! [Posted on 2008-04-28] I thought it was a great thermometer, and after using it twice, the glass on top just broke, without any reason. And then, when it's broke you can't use it anymore because the paper that indicates the temperature is not glued and moved... Lost 10 doll...
Only worked twice [Posted on 2008-05-11] Nice idea to have the incubating range highlighted, and the clip is helpful too.
It worked great the first two times and then ceased to function; this is without dropping it, putting it in the dishwasher or otherwise abusing it.
I have 2. Sometimes they agree; sometimes they do not. [Posted on 2008-05-28] I purchased two of these thermometers for use with two Salton YM9 Yogurt makers. After a number of uses they did not agree on the temperature when side-by-side in the same fluid. Sometimes there is as much a 6 degrees Celsius difference between the two.
One can use a small wrench to adjust the dial. This works (for me) by using the Salton YM9 Yogurt Maker's incubation temperature as a reference. [The GREEN zone on the thermometer is the Salton's incubation temperature.]
((The Salton is a v-e-r-y good yogurt maker but is no longer being manufactured by Salton. It has disappeared from the Web; sites which display it and accept orders follow up with an email first stating it is "back ordered" then "not available".))
inaccurate gauge, plastic over dial melted! [Posted on 2008-06-26] My experience with this thermometer is that it does not hold up well to long term use. The temperature seemed to be inaccurate after the first several uses, and the covering over the dial is made of plastic and melted when I was raising the temperature of the yogurt mix in the oven!
