Customer Reviews:

Great Product [Posted on 2008-08-09]
I have been using Zone Alarm since last October and it has performed brilliantly. I have only owned a computer for about 4 years and went with Norton Initially, I guess because it was the most popular. I was infected at least three times with spyware, viruses, etc... Of the three infections Norton only detected one, the other two I used a free internet scanner to detect. Not too mention Norton used huge amounts of computer resources to operate. Since buying Zone Alarm, my computer has ran much, much better. I have had no infections(granted I am a little more computer savvy), and Zone Alarm is constantly blocking access to my computer. It is highly customizable and easy to use. There are far more features available and I dont even use half of whats available. I would highly recommend Zone Alarm, no matter what your level of computer experience!!!

Don't waste your time [Posted on 2008-08-13]
I installed this on three computers, my desktop, my laptop, and my wife's desktop. It slowed my desktop to the point that I couldn't use it. Slowed the others quite a bit. Emailed customer service, they suggested that I clear all start up programs to determine if one had a conflict with Zone Alarm. Hey I already knew what the conflict was it was zone alarm, so I un-installed it and everything worked fine. I have used their firewall for years and loved it. Apparently they have overloaded this suite with to much stuff. Don't take the chance to waste your $s on this

STILL a quality product... [Posted on 2008-08-26]
Having originally used the Zone Alarm Professional Firewall, I was intrigued when they decided to come out with a full security suite a few years ago. While the first incarnations used Vet's antivirus program, the latest version 7 (and now 8) uses Kaspersky's a/v - which is much improved over the previous versions. I have tested multiple other security "suites" in the past several years to include Norton (huge memory/resource hog), McAfee (interface is too 'busy' - also a resource hog) and Trend Micro (ditto to McAfee) to name a few and they have all had their issues that you have to deal with in regards to setup/configuration and just getting them to work correctly out of the box. Zone Alarm has put together an excellent product - top notch firewall, excellent antivirus/antispyware and solid antispam - along with separate, easily configurable "privacy" options (for changing the level to block cookies and ad blocking), basic identity protection and even parental controls. While there have been a few issues in the past 18 months (since the arrival of Vista) and a few Microsoft updates that have collided with my firewall, ZA was out with a tweaked/updated version within a few days and had a workaround in my email box the SAME DAY as the problems began. As an IT professional, I've installed it on no less than 100 computers in the past couple of years and it remains one of the easiest of the security suites to set up. I've just downloaded the newest version, 8.0.015 from their website and am testing it on my XP machine. My early review is that the new interface is clean, updated and still easy to configure. The installation was easier than previous versions and the quickscan of the antispyware completed in less than 1 minute - a definite improvement. Hopefully the virus scan has improved in that department as well. For now, I can still give it 5/5 stars - a quality product that does what it's supposed to do - keep my computer CLEAN.

It had bugs, but they have been fixed [Posted on 2008-11-08]
Well, I have had this software installed on an old Dell Windows 2000 machine and on a new home-built Win XP machine based on an Intel motherboard for less than a year. I can not say that I have been too happy with the overall performance of this product, but it seems to be working well now that it has the latest patches.

By the way, they don't tell you that their version 8 and higher software does not work with Windows 2000. So if you want to run an old Win 2K matchine, don't go for this software unless you can get the last of the Version 7 software - version 7.0.483.000.

I had the same negative experiences that the above reviewers had, but again, they are now corrected. My XP machine does run the latest version 8 software and it seems to be working great. My Win 2K machine has to run version 7.0.483.000. and it does OK. Can't really complain about the Win2K machine as it is so slow anyway and is no longer supported by Microsoft anyway.

Regarding the reviewers that gave this software a 5 star rating. I find it hard to believe that these are legitimate reviews. I would actually suspect these reviews as being sales pitches from the Zone Alarm folks. I find that this company is a little questionable in how they deal with their customers and their customer service. I have seen them delete negative comments on their software from their user forums. They have never lied (that I am aware of), but I simply felt that they do their best to put a rosey picture on their product. As one reviewer above noted, their Tech Support put the blame on my other programs when ZA practically brought my XP machine to its knees. I also was told to disable my other programs until I found "the culprit". Well I didn't do that. I have those programs on my computer because I want them there. Better that ZA should fix their product, which they eventually did. However, they never simply came out and took the blame for a defective product update.

I used to love their free firewall and this was why I decided to try their full service product. Hopefully these bad experiences were just growing pains that ZA is getting past, but they have damaged their reputation by failing to be completely forthcoming with their customers.

The unwritten rule of bad publicity: tell the customer about your mistake, take responsibility for your mistake (with a sincere apology) and then take corrective action.

look elsewhere [Posted on 2008-11-17]
I went to Zone Alarm because I was unhappy with another product. That was a big mistake. I run VER 8 it has caused loss of internet connectivity. This is very similar to the problem that occured in July when they put out an update that conflicted with a MS XP update. I lost many hours on that fiasco. This tim it didn't take me as long to try turning ZA off. Sure enough after turning ZA off I was able to connect. I run ZA on two computers one still has Ver 7 , no connection proble with this one. The one updated to VER 8 is the one that wouldn't connect.

A second issue is I am constantly bothered with warnings about suspicious program activity. ZA says that it doesn't know what to do about this but yet I am supposed to. I bought the program to do this for me.

What a piece of junk.

At least the other vendor would talk to me and did finally offer me a free upgrade. Unfortunately I had already bought ZA by that time. What a mistake.
