A Preteen Review [Posted on 2005-03-12] This is so cool, dude !I think its a good and fun game!Cool I give this game 5 stars, man!I hope they make more Zoo Tycoons.
Educational...Exciting...Everything you'd ever need! [Posted on 2005-03-17] This is great for all ages, all types of people. You don't need to be a teenage computer geek to love this game, or a child future vet to love this game.
The graphics are really good, and the animals are so real. It's more detailed than RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 and 2, but it doesn't have quite as many options.
We recently went to Animal Kingdom at Disney World, and I knew all about every animal we saw on the safari: okapi, Thompson's gazelle, clouded leopard...when we were passing the okapi, I even said to my mom, "Man, those animals are high maitenance. They're never happy, and always have to live by themselves!" Of course, she was wondering WHY IN THE WORLD I would know about an animal she had never heard of until then. After passing the Thompson's gazelles I said, "Oh, I love those things. They are so easy to take care of, and I can even add other animals in there with them! They love to be with zebras, and even giraffes! They mostly just need savannah terrain, so it's pretty simple." Yet another awkward stare at my astounding knowledge.
Who would've ever guessed that it could be this educational? You can even see what different animals eat, and what their poop looks like!
Now let's talk about the shows. You can get some dolphins or killer whales, or some other animals, to come out and do a show for you! It's quite simple. You just have to conduct a show with the already-purchased toys, buy stadiums for the audience, and sit back and enjoy the show! It's really cool seeing the dolphins swimming around and performing tricks.
The Dinosaur Digs part isn't that great. I personally don't really enjoy the dinosaur part, unless I'm freeing them to kill everyone. Sometimes I block the exit so the guests won't leave, fire all of the workers so they can't stun-gun the animals, and free everyone: the lions, bears, tyrannosaurus rex's...it's so fun to see all the people running away and screaming...
A fun expansion to Zoo Tycoon [Posted on 2005-11-29] I got this as a birthday present a while back, and have recently started playing it again. Here's some quick Pro's and Con's:
Pro's:
-A bunch of marine animals
-Some animals can perform
-Marine animals are easier to care for then zoo animals
-New objects
Con's:
-Show animals won't perorm well if hungry
-Marine specialists can be very dumb
-Guests are still idiots
-Cannot get tank service filter intill late in game
Now I'll explain these pro's and con's in more detail.
Pro's
There is a bunch of marine animals, all who are easy or difficult to care for. They are generally more easy to care for than zoo animals though.
Show animals!!! You can make a profit off some of your animals by having them perform in shows. Be sure to make them perform "Infrequent" so they don't get mad. If you over work them they will get angry and so will your guests.
New objects. There are a bunch of marine objects, making your zoo look more appealing. Also, just as a tip, if you put the mermaid statue in a tank, it becomes a real mermaid!
Con's
Show animals won't perform well if hungry. This has been a problem for me. My orca's will go into the show tank with a full stomach (If they don't I cancel the show) and leave with a empty one. They miss/screw up the ticks if they are hungry and this causes my guests to boo and think "What was that?"
Marine specialists are, like zoo keepers, idiots. I'll get a notice saying my Tiger Sharks are hungry, and I'll see my ten billion marine specialists running around "Monitoring" the zoo.
Guests are idiots. I'll see a starving guest wandering around, so I'll drop him in front of a burger stand and he'll walk by. My problem with the seafood resteraunt is I'll drop a guest by, they'll walk in and come out with all bars up, but the happiness bar which is at zero.
Tank filter. If you make a tank without a filter it'll eventually become dirty making your animals mad. A marine specialist can clean it, but that takes forever.
Overall a good game worth buying. Plus you get Dino digs, which I am not gonna review, cause this just took me too long to type.
Zoo Tycoon Expansion pack:Marine Mania [Posted on 2006-02-21] Just a NOTE of caution--THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH ZOO TYCOON 2!
My grand daughter found this great price on Amazon, and talked me into buying it for her--only to have her in tears when it arrived would not load. I did what I should have done before I bought it and realized our mistake.
BEWARE! Does not work with Zoo Tycoon 2 for Mac! [Posted on 2006-12-26] My daughter really wanted the Marine Mania expansion pack, so I searched the internet until I found it at Amazon. All the details appeared to indicate that this product worked with Zoo Tycoon 2. However, it only works for Zoo Tycoon 2 for Windows, NOT for Macintosh. Therefore, I now own software that I cannot use, as we have Zoo Tycoon 2 for Mac. If you are a Mac owner, make sure that you do not get caught making this mistake.
