Flash for those who don't know Flash or don't have the time [Posted on 2006-02-13]
I am a freelance web designer. I know basic Flash MX, enough to do Flash intros and simple presentations. However, I chose not to offer Flash services to my clients because I am a stay at home parent, who freelances on the side. I just didn't have the time to do any Flash work. As anyone who uses Flash knows even a simple and short Flash intro can be quiet time consuming to build.

Thanks to Motion Artist 3.0, I have now started offering Flash to my clients. You can literally do in minutes what could takes hours in Flash MX. Motion Artist has multiple animations built in. For example, if you want a piece of text to fade in simply click the text and then choose Fade In from the list of animations and that's it. There is a very easy to use timeline that allows you to control each piece of your project. There is a slider for each object in the timeline. You can make it shorter or longer to control the length of an animation. You can also drag it to another location in the timeline to determine the order in which that object executes.

I haven't had a chance to build a full Flash site yet, but from playing around with the various features, it seems like it wouldn't take too long. There are some built in templates, for menus and the like, but I haven't gotten around to using them yet.

I highly recommend this product for people who build websites. I wish I had heard about it sooner.

A fine program by Jordan [Posted on 2006-05-24]
This is a good program for those who want to make some pretty cool websites. I wasn't expecting much because I just wasn't. I use Director 8.5 for animating 2D fun stuff.

The Good:
1. It's very easy and comes with a lot of built in features such as fade in and fade out.
2. The timeline is like a score if you use Director.
3. It's very simple and easy to master.
4. Thank God you don't need to script in any computer language.
5. You can easily do tons of stuff at once.

Now for the bad:
1. I'm used to dragging the item not seeng a see through version of the characters (cast). I can't stand that when you click straight that it shows the transparent version right on top of the original.
2. You can't drag your pictures to the background area or use them as backgrounds.
3. There is no proberties option to make something Matte or Transparent etc. option like in Director when you're animating. So when ever you draw something in a program like paint it comes out when you try dragging it on the screen to be bordered in white.

So the goods out do the bads so I took away one star. It's still a fine program, but with some annoying options that are clearly not in there. I reccomend this to people who want to make a website quickly in a short time.

Director is a very good animating program and you can do a lot more stuff in it with animating. It says on the Motionartist box "Flash animation in minutes" which is true when you think about it, but it is not a serious animating program like making flash movies for the internet. Oh yeah this is also pretty good for making presentations too.
