Customer Reviews:

1 + 1 < 2 ?? [Posted on 2008-03-25]
nVidia has a very aggressive product schedule recently and creates many confusion. To simplify, let me do a formula presentation.

1. 9800GX2 = 2 8800GTS which not equals to Next Generation Technology
2. 9800GX2 < 8800GTS 512mb SLi (slower)
3. 9800GX2 $$ > TWO 8800GTS 512mb $$ (more expensive)

1. Whether it's a new generation technology might not be an issue for most people as long as it could dominate the current graphic card competition. Several reviews suggest that 9800GX2 does deliver what it was supposed to do. But what makes it so confused is it's not a choice between Starbucks Grande and Venti Latte. When you upgrade from Grande to Venti Latte, you know you would have 20% gain which equals to absolute 4oz value. 9800GX2 would give you mix result that won't justify the amount of dollars you invest vs. performance gain or improve.
2. Since it's based on G92, you won't anticipate a huge leap (compare with G92) and here's where nVidia drops the ball; if 9800GX2 is stocking two 8800 GTS 512 together, Customers would want to see better performance and less money. In reality, 8800GTS 512mb SLi outperformed 9800GX2 in every game.
3. If 9800GX2 is cheaper, it would make sense to buy. Currently, it is priced around $599. Last week, you can get a 8800GTS for $230. So basically you have two options. A: pay $490 with better performance or B: pay $599 with less performance. Starbucks never attempted to sell a product called Doppio Grande which charges you more than two cups of Grande Latte but it comes with less than two cups because I guess they seriously think it might not work.

In financial engineering world, create confusion product is the key to sustain the market. nVidia's attempt of launching 9800GX2 fails to accomplish that. It was too easy for customers to figure out the relative price point on a performance/price chart. Until 9800GX2 dropped below the price of two 8800GTS, there's really no point to consider this product an upgrade/purchase option.

Awesome!! [Posted on 2008-03-28]
I really like this card. Yes, it is a little pricey, but I like the performance. I went from an Evga 8800 GTX Superclocked Edition Card to this. This card is quite a bit faster. My 3DMark06 score went from 12500 to 16400. This card does overclock quite nice... at least better than my 8800 GTX did. I did not see any issues with heat. A lot of reviews bad mouthed the card saying it ran way too hot and pumped all of the heat inside of the case. Well, that may be true, but I ain't seeing it. My case temp stayed the same. If I overclock the card it will reach 70C. If I don't then it stays about 60ish. I do agree with the reviews in that 2 lower end cards will match this single card, and at a reduced price. I got this card looking towards the future. Probably sometime in the summer I will get a second 9800 GX2 and then I should be set. And... in Quad this card can not be touched right not... especially by 2 8800 GT, GTS, GTX, etc.

I'm happy, no regrets.

Oh, by the way... Tiger has this card cheaper. Amazon gave me the run-around so I canceled my order and went straight through Tiger.

Great product [Posted on 2008-05-09]
Great product and support
The only downside to it is that it runs pretty hot.
I wish they had water cooling for them.
